October Spiders

This week was spider week in kindergarten! We had so much fun making spider crafts and learning about spiders.

Here are a few fun things we did this week!

We read lots of books about spiders and brainstormed facts on a "web" of information. Then, we made a "Spiders can- have-are chart" together. The children used the two graphic organizers to write facts about spiders. After only thirty-five days of kindergarten, they are already amazing writers!

We made spider hand prints for our October quilt. First, we made the spider webs by marble painting. If you haven't done this before, you need to try it. The kids love it! Get a box lid and put your paper inside. Roll a few marbles in a tray of white or silver paint. Spoon the marbles into the lid. Have your kiddos tilt the lid around to roll the marbles across the paper. Take the paper out and let it try. Step two...paint both hands black. Paint the fingers and palms but leave the thumbs clean. Press the child's hands one at a time onto the spider web paper, stamping the second palm over the first. Add some wiggly eyes and you have a cute spider print!
