Syllable Sundae Fun!

Today we worked on the Common Core Kindergarten Standard RF.k.2b
Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words.

We scooped up some syllable sundae fun working on this standard!
First, we worked on counting syllables.... I scrunched up some colorful tissue balls and put them in a big plastic bowl. Each child had their own Sundae bowl. (I picked these up at the dollar store this summer - 4 for a dollar!)

We started off by scooping up our names. One scoop for each syllable!

Next, we used the Counting Syllables cards from my Phonemic Awareness Activity Pack- Counting Syllables.

Each child picked a card, and scooped up the correct number of syllables.

Here is a three scoop sundae for the word butterfly.

A few more syllable sundae examples...

Next, we moved on to blending syllables.

We built sundaes by blending two word parts together.

Such a fun way to master this standard! My kids loved it.
